#standbyyourgym and the Tier 4 risk to the independent fitness industry

Just before the first lockdown we launched the #standbyyourgym campaign asking members, where they could afford to do so, to continue to support their independent gym during lockdown, little did we know we’d be asking the same thing for the third time as we head into 2021.

This time we have stats to back up our request, based around our research from our members in November:

– 57% of independent facilities say they can’t last more than 3 months if forced to lockdown again
– 1 million members will be affected
– 15000 employees work in those gyms

Today’s Tier 4 restrictions, piled on top of the closures across Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are a devastating blow to owners forced to close their doors, flying in the face of the evidence showing the fitness industry is safe.
